Sadly it’s just another day where the news pops off
Calling it a tragedy but not asking for it to stop
How can we tell teachers that it’s okay?
Only ask them to risk their lives every day?
Only telling children to practice “just in case?”
Looking the other way while calling school a safe place?
Sick people shouldn’t have a gun
Haven’t we learned from a single one?
One nation, under god, indivisible
Overestimating the mind of the invisible
Teenager with adult-sized pain
In a world covered in a blood stain
No one sees it coming
Guns firing, children running
So what does it matter if you call it numbing?
Sadness doesn’t do a damn thing for those souls
How can you ignore that at the polls?
Often times broken homes are missing
Unrecognizable children who are wishing
Let the world stop, pause, end
Doubting the message that the world sends
No practicing, no drills, will ever change
Ostracism of the children deemed strange
Totaling to the problem on the world stage.
But hell if I can’t make a difference in this life
Even a saving single child from that kind of strife
Honor the lost children and teachers for now
And then take the time to disavow
Persons who fail to see the problem in schools
Persons who see nothing wrong with the rules
Extinguish the apathy and the normalcy
Numbing the world full of hypocrisy
In my lifetime, I will keep safe any student I can
Not knowing what’s wrong with man
Grasping at any hope until the end.
