Rapidly, rapidly

I hear them in my head-

crying out and laughing-

a monster in my bed.

I look into a mirror

frightened by what I see-

evil eyes, wicked grin-

that sure as hell ain't me.

I move to touch the glass

the monster does the same.

Silent, I mouth the word

a low course growling name.

That's not MY reflection-

snake eyes, sharp toothy grin.

No way! it's just a fake.

I look at it again.

The thing's hand touches glass

just like mine is right now,

its mouth open wide, aghast.

Sometimes I look again,

but it's never the same.

Each time a new monster

forms its lips to my name.
